New Monero 0.17 requires wallet updates

New features of Monero after the update

On October 17th, the Monero developers released an online update 0.17 called "Oxygen Orion". It focuses on improving all aspects of Monero.

A key feature of the update is the Compact linkable spontaneous anonymous group (CLSAG). The CLSAG ring signature scheme was developed as a replacement for MLSAG to improve efficiency. CLSAG has the same functionality as MLSAG, but at the same time it allows you to reduce the size of transactions by 25% and verify signatures faster.

Also in the 0.17 update, the network security system has been improved. This was especially true for Dandelion++ technology — an improved version of Dandelion, which was developed for BTC in 2017, but is also compatible with XMR. The technology is responsible for hiding the IP addresses of users.

Older versions of wallets stop working correctly after updating: they do not display transactions and do not send funds. Therefore, they need to be updated.

What if the transaction is confirmed, but the funds have not been credited to the wallet?

After the 0.17 update, many users faced problems sending and receiving coins. If your transaction has the required number of network confirmations, but the wallet does not display funds, you need:

  • Check the synchronization of the wallet with the daemon, as well as the synchronization of the daemon with the blockchain.
  • Check the synchronization of the wallet with the current number of blocks in the XMR network. To do this, you can use the MoneroHash.com service. The Blockchain Height line shows the current number of blocks.
  • Check the relevance of the wallet version and download the update from the official website of your wallet. This XMR update was a hard fork, so the developers point out that it is very important to have an up-to-date version of the wallet software.
